The Greater Columbia area, also known as the Midlands, is comprised of Richland
and Lexington counties. Home of the state capital, Columbia is located in
the geographic center of the state. All of South Carolina can be reached
in just a three hour drive! Whether you'd like to visit the mountains, the
beach, or scenic Charleston, you are just a short drive away.
The Midlands area is served by three major interstate systems; I-20, I-26,
and I-77. A beltway connects the three interstates.
The population of Richland and Lexington counties is approximately 454,000
residents. projections of the population in the year 2,000 indicate a 12.5%
increase with the number of residents reaching 510,000. The Midlands is ranked
among the top 20 fastest growing areas in the country.
