Libraries...

The Richland County Public Library System serves the residents of the Midlands. The main facility is a 242,000 square foot building in downtown Columbia. There are also nine branch facilities.

The Thomas Cooper Library is the University of South Carolina's main library and research facility and is available for use by the public. It is seven stories and about 290,000 square feet. The library has been open for over 27 years.

The South Caroliniana Library is also located on the University of South Carolina campus. Researchers from around the world visit the Caroliniana to study. The major research divisions of the library include: Books, Manuscripts, Modern Political Collections, and University Archives. The library proves to be a great tool in preserving Southern history.
