The South Carolina State House
On March 22, 1786, the capitol city of South Carolina was moved from
Charleston to an area along the Congaree River which belonged to
Colonel Thomas Taylor .The first map of South Carolina showed the
new location of the State House which was to be located on a prominent
hill. The final State House, which stands overlooking Gervais Street
today, took 56 years to complete. The cost of the building exceeded
$3,450,000. The 130,673 square foot building is constructed of granite
that came from a quarry only two miles away. But the State House
is more than a magnificent building - ?Within its walls reside the
hopes, dreams, integrity, and trust of the citizens of South Carolina.?

Lake Murray
Lake Murray is the shining recreation spot for the Midlands. The lake
is actually manmade, and at one point, its dam was the largest earthen
dam used for power purposes in the world. Lake Murray consists of 78
square miles of water and 50,000 acres of land. It provides storage
for 763 billion gallons of water. From hunting and fishing to boating
and kayaking, you can find it all on beautiful Lake Murray.
With over 500 miles of shoreline and 50 thousand acres, the lake also
is a prime site for real estate development. Lake Murray already boasts
some of the area's most unique homes, featuring beautiful designs coupled
with a luxurious lake setting. The area is also convenient to major
shopping sites and schools in the area are some of the finest in Richland
and Lexington counties.
Lake Murray is named for William Murray, the engineer who helped conceive
the plan to build "the world's largest earthen dam" in 1927. The 200-foot
dam was completed in 1930 and created the Lake, which now serves as
such an important part of the lifestyle Midlands residents enjoy.
We offer many beautiful listings on the lake. For more information,
